Middle Eastern Rhythms: Six to eight week series with an emphasis on playing rhythms from the Middle East on the doumbeck. Students develop drumming techniques, practice variations of each rhythm, and experience playing arranged music as a percussion ensemble. Great for dancers and drummers alike!

Beyond 4-4: If you’re ready to explore a new world of rhythms that reach beyond the usual 4-4 time signature, then this class is for you! Three to five week series focusing on “unusual” rhythmic cycles, such as 7-, 9-, and 10-beat rhythms. Great opportunity for drummers, dancers, instrumentalists, and listeners to expand their appreciation of rhythms with a twist!

Rhythm Games: A broad overview of rhythmic skills, ranging from simple to complex, that can be applied to any instrument. This three to five week series will build your confidence, give you new ideas, provide practice drills, and take you to the next rhythmic level, all while sampling a variety of ethnic musical traditions!

Indian Classical Music Appreciation: Expand your understanding of Hindustani classical music in this class, either as a listener or as a performer. Taught in conjunction with accomplished instrumentalists, we will cover topics including tala, raga, alap, and tihai.

Drum-Making: Build your own Native American-style frame drum out of elk hide on a cedar frame in a ceremonial manner. All materials included, along with opportunities to personalize your creation!
